The consumer society and the race for huge amounts of cheap food have led to inhumane applications of scientific findings in many spheres of human activity. The widespread use of chemicals and genetic engineering in primary agriculture and the use of additives, preservatives and antioxidants in the food industry have brought about pollution problems. Therefore, market requirements related to quality, packaging, design, etc. are becoming increasingly stringent. The skilled use of modern agricultural practices and process optimisation in the food processing industry have become imperative for the production of high-quality food, and can be ensured only through active participation of highly educated personnel. We are aware of the increasing importance of university education. Based on our commitment to meeting academic standards, we strive to ensure continuous quality improvement of our study programmes and research activities to adapt to the contemporary requirements of science and practice, and the rapidly changing needs of the economy. Through the integration of teaching, science, research, innovative efforts and extension activities, we take actions to transfer knowledge and skills to both the economic sector and society at large.
